an you spare an hour a week to change the future of America?
The stakes in the 2008 elections have never been higher. By electing Democrats in November 2008, we can turn around America; create good, high-paying jobs; improve education; make health care affordable and accessible to all; and create new opportunities to restore the American dream. But this change won’t happen unless you get directly involved – starting right now.
By joining the Ohio Democratic Party’s Neighborhood Leader program, you can help bring meaningful change to your community and our county in less than an hour per week.
The job of a Neighborhood Leader is simple and easy. You agree to take responsibility for contacting your friends and neighbors in your immediate area and talking to them about our Democratic nominees and the issues that matter most.
This face-to-face contact is the key to winning in November. Voters block out TV ads and often ignore political mail pieces and robotic phone calls. But the most effective, most persuasive method of recruiting voters is a trusted neighbor talking to other neighbors.
Making the now commitment to take part in this program is the single most important thing you can do to ensure a Democratic victory in November.
By agreeing to be a Neighborhood Leader, you are committing to doing the following between now and Election Day 2008:
- Regularly reach out to your social network: Talk to family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, and people from your place of worship about the importance of this year’s election. Start this conversation by explaining why you are supporting our ticket and volunteering for this effort.
- Talk to voters in your community: Neighborhood Leaders will go door-to-door talking to targeted voters in their neighborhood, identifying potential supporters, finding out what issues matter to them, and then distributing helpful literature.
- Host or co-host at least one event: Invite people in your social network and voters in your precinct to at least one event in your home or in the community. The ODP will sponsor many statewide House Meeting days, with conference calls featuring special guests, or you can invite a local speaker to an event you organize on your own.
- Report regularly to the ODP: Neighborhood Leaders regularly check in with local ODP staffers to update us on your progress and get feedback from voters so we can run the best campaign possible.
The Ohio Democratic Party will supply you with all the tools you need to be successful, including lists, scripts, pledge cards, issue papers, and other important election materials. Sign up right now by emailing your contact information to Stephanie Howse at showse@ohiodems.org or Matt Slain at mslain@ohiodems.org or call the Cuyahoga County Party Headquarters at (216) 621-9750.
We look forward to working with you for Victory in 2008!
